The Coronavirus (COVID – 19) is nothing to fear! Place your faith in God and draw near Him and His will for our lives.
If you haven’t crawled out of your cave in the last two months, you might not have known there is a panic over a little virus spreading around the globe. This virus is called the Coronavirus or COVID-19. According to the mainstream media, this virus is the worst thing since the Black Plague or Spanish Flu.
The media has spun so much fear and worry among the public that in American today, grocery shelves are bare, essentials like toilet paper, baby wipes and baby food is in drastically short supply. Although America has not crumbled or been attacked by a foreign government, it sure feels that we have. The reason we feel worried and even a little scared for our family is because we have let our guard down. We have surrendered to fear and worry the mainstream media has been feeding to us for weeks.
We worry about our family getting sick, providing food for our families and about the possibility of layoffs. Our human reaction is only natural.
If we think logically about the basic facts surrounding the Coronavirus, the media has hyped the news to sell papers and TV ads for greater profits to heighten our fears. But in reality, we have nothing to fear. God has our backs!
As Christians, we are are to hold on to our faith in troubling times like these for guidance, knowledge and wisdom. As the word of God teaches us, “So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.” (2 Thes 2:15)
As we look to our bibles for wisdom during this time of national panic, we can see our reaction to the news of the Coronavirus is overblown. We are not to worry about what tomorrow may bring but focus on the word and promises of God.
God explains in Matthew 6: 25-34,
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Therefore, do not worried about what we see around us, what the news portrays or unnecessary fears. God requires us to focus on Him and His will for us and all the other things in life will be granted to us like food, shelter, clothes and the necessities of life. Pray to God and give Him thanks for all he has provided and turn to the bible and not the news.
